Formulas start with = and support + − × ÷ (written + - * /), powers with ^, percentages like 18%, and parentheses. Functions include SUM, AVERAGE (or AVG), MIN, MAX, COUNT, PRODUCT, ROUND, ABS, and SQRT, and range functions accept ranges and single values together, as in =SUM(A1:A5, 10). Formulas can reference other formula cells, and text or empty cells in a range are skipped, just like Excel.

Problems appear as familiar error codes: #DIV/0! for division by zero, #VALUE! when math uses a text cell, #NAME? for unknown functions, #REF! for cells outside the grid, and #CYCLE! for circular references.
